Phil Johnson
Phil's dad was a PCB Designer and he started doing his own hand taped artwork whilst still at school for home built projects. His first job was for S.E. Labs (EMI) Ltd where he trained as an Electronics Technician. Worked on development of the first ever ultrasound body scanner in the early 70's. He left SE Labs to join a sub-contract PCB design office where most of the work was for Ferranti including head-up displays, Harrier engine development and helmet following aiming systems using thick film hybrid designs, all of this work was done by hand taping or disgitising. In 1983 they were thinking of investing in CAD technology and at the same time Phil had an offer to work for G&B as a PCB Designer. In the subsequent 15 years he became Chief Designer, Design Office Manger and finally Technical Director before jacking it all in in 2000 and moving to wales. Lucky for G&B Phil couldn't shake off the PCB habit completely and continues to work from home in the mountains surrounded by lots of 4 legged wooly jumpers.
